Mission

The purpose of the Sliver City Museum Society is to support through fundraising and other activities the mission of the Silver City Museum, a municipally owned and established museum.

About the Silver City Museum Society

The Silver City Museum Society, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded in 1985 to provide supplementary financial and volunteer support to the Silver City Museum, in Historic Downtown Silver City. The Museum Society augments operational support from the Town of Silver City, enhancing Museum programming and public services with supplementary staffing, paid and volunteer, as well as equipment and outreach support.

In 2019, The American Alliance of Museums again recognized the Silver City Museum as a member of a rare group of museums, in fact only 7 in all of New Mexico, to be granted Accreditation, 1 of only 1,085 museums in all the US with 33,000 museums in the country. This status, originally achieved years ago under the direction of the first Museum Director, Susan Berry, brings national attention to our museum and recognizes the continuing hard work and high standards of the staff.
